At Bombay Beach, we will stop and have lunch at Ski In, which gained its popularity over the years as the only place for miles to stop for food and refreshments. We will explore ruins of shore front home at Bombay Beach.
Our next destination will be Salvation Mountain. It is a hand- made mountain that was created by late Leonard Knight. Leonard Knight spent over 30 years on this project . He built the mountain from adobe , straw, and thousands of gallons of paint. In 2002 , senator Barbara Boxer, entered Salvation Mountain to a congressional record of a national treasure.
Our next destination will be Slab City , the abandoned world war ii , Cam Dunlap military base that today is a home to many "snow birds" that live here during a winter month. Some residents live here full time. It's one of the kind community . They call it "The Last Free Place in America" where one can live freely and for free .
The last place we visit is East Jesus. East Jesus is a community of artists that is located in a most remote area of Slab City. Some Artists live and work here and some just come for a visit and to create some art. The art of Eat Jesus is created from trash and found/recycled material to assemble sculptures, installations, and habitable spaces.
Today the installation at East Jesus consists of the main structure, the Art Garden, livable art cars and buses, a music room complete with a baby grand piano, a garden, a kitchen, and more. Frank Redford ,a curator of East Jesus will give us a tour and show around.
We will leave at 8 am and be back around 8pm. Your fee include transportation, complimentary drinks and lunch at Ski In. We will be picked up by our driver and his minivan who will take us to our destination and back. There are a few paid parking lots in Down Town Long Beach where we can leave our cars for a day.
